Day One!
The 2017 season has begun! The Wasatch received its first significant storm last Friday.
Alta picked up around 15 inches, just enough to make some pow turns!
I met Tony Aadland in the Albion parking lot around 6:30am. The drive up canyon ended up being happily hectic. Obviously UDOT isn't thinking about plowing roads since it is September. There was about 4 inches or so that had accumulated on the road, making four wheel drive necessary past Snowbird's entry one.
We did five laps in Greeley Bowl at Alta.
I'm also claiming that we made first turns in the Wasatch this season since we were the only car in the parking lot and we dropped in on our first run around 7:20am.
If anyone can prove they had an earlier start, congratulations! Otherwise first turns belonged to us this year!
September 24 also marked our 11th consecutive month of snowboarding. We've managed to make turns in Utah all 11 months.
Now that day one is in the books, we need this snow to melt off so it doesn't create a persistent weak layer at the very bottom of our snowpack. Or it just needs to keep snowing! Game on!
