Deep snow, low sun angle, and lack of tourists combine to form the perfect conditions. I'd say this year is no exception. Aside from a brutally long 6 hour red snake down BCC the day after Thanksgiving, early season conditions have been all time. Several large storms have fattened up the snowpack to the point where all aspects are holding good snow. The north half of the compass in the Wasatch is still harboring a very nasty persistent weak layer at the bottom of the snowpack. Hopefully in time this problem will sort itself out. For now, south and west and very low angle north all have plenty of snow to provide good touring options. Looking ahead, it appears we'll be dry till Christmas. Hopefully the storm door swings open again as we head into the new decade. So far we're off to a good start.
