New Month, New Zone
We are now in Farellones, Chile.
There are three different resorts and endless backcountry touring possibilities in this area. After talking to a few locals and seeing a few pictures, we decided to ride El Colorado today with the hope of accessing the Santa Teresa face.
Yesterday's storm only dropped a few centimeters of snow so we were skeptical of the snow conditions at the start of the day.
After a few lift-served laps of wind deposited powder, we decided to head out to Santa Teresa.
Conditions were absolutely perfect.
The face does not appear to get much direct solar radiation this time of year so the snow stays cold and soft. We were able to score two pow runs over in this area.
The most difficult part is hitching a ride back to El Colorado. Hitchhiking does not seem to be a common practice here like it is back home in Utah where you almost always get picked up within ten minutes.
We ended up waiting two hours for a ride after the first lap and one hour after the second. Having a crew with a shuttle car is highly recommended. The lines are totally worth the wait at the bottom, though.
Santa Teresa is probably some of the best lift-accessed backcountry I have ever ridden. I cannot wait to do more laps there!
