Pic of the Day: April 10
Another day, another photo. Looks like it's gonna get cold again here in Utah. Spring is just a battle between summer and winter for control...
The Summer of Splitboarding
Aside from the 4 plus miles of dry approach and exit, this was an incredibly rad day. Last season will always be one of my favorites. I took this shot of Tyler in Lake Chute the day before the Summer Solstice last June. The night before, he hit me up wanting to go up White Pine. We were hoping the lake would be popping out so we could get the crazy blue water in the background of some snowboarding shots and that we could maybe find a pond skim. The pond skim didn't happen, but there was just enough water on the lake to add a unique element to the shot.
I wanted the panned out shot with Red Baldy in the background to highlight how much snow was still up there that late in June. We ended up riding Rock N Roll off Red Baldy after Lake Chute (1st chute right of center in photo). What was impressive was how well the snow was. Usually once you get that late in the summer you start dealing with massive sun cups from the snow melting. It was perfect corn though. Completely smooth. Definitely not what I was expecting for late June.
2019 was the season that just kept giving. Here we were, on basically the longest day of the year, riding two awesome lines. Riding late in June is a novelty in its own right. Riding good lines in great snow as well is just awesome. Plus the looks the day hikers give you at the trailhead when you show back up with a splitboard strapped to your pack is pretty fun too!
