Pic of the Day: April 29

Apparently Utah is gonna start to reopen on Friday. Here's hoping we aren't back on lockdown by May 15th...

The Red Snake

Man, this feels like ages ago...

Things really got going this season during the last week of November. This one turned into an all day affair. Me, Mike, and Jenny went up Big Cottonwood the Friday after Thanksgiving to get a quick tour in up Powder Park. The early season snowpack was super touchy but the low angle slopes were riding great. We got back to the Spruces lot just as the storm was really starting to move in.

Then we waited...and waited..and waited... Finally after about 20 minutes of not moving at all, we decided to just head up to Brighton and grab some snacks and road sodas for what was looking like a very long drive down canyon.

I snapped this photo pretty close to Solitude as we literally crept down canyon. At one point we were stuck by Silver Fork Lodge for over an hour. That was actually lucky because we had time to order food to go and Mike and Jenny had time for another beer inside.

It took over 6 hours to drive back to Salt Lake. By the time we made it down, the storm had ended. It was the start of a great stretch of the season. We all dread the red snake on storm days, but having your friends in the car really helps. In a way, I kind of miss this moment. One, because it's very much spring now, so there probably won't be anymore snowy commutes. And two, I just miss hanging out with my friends. Here's hoping things will be back to normal next season.

I'd much rather bitch about canyon traffic on a pow day than bitch about quarantine.
