Pic of the Day: May 1

Gloomy and overcast in Salt Lake today. It would be nice if we could get some rain after having the driest April in recorded history. At least the cooler temperature is nice. A lot of states reopened today. If you're getting out and about make sure you're doing so in a responsible manner. Don't fuck it up and put us back on full blown lockdown, eh?

It looks like Australia got its first significant snow of the season yesterday. Before the pandemic, I was planning on spending a chunk of the summer (winter) down there. Unless things drastically improve I'd say that's not gonna happen now. Southern Hemisphere winter aside, I'd really just like to see my sister this year. And my parents for that matter. But flights to both Australia and Florida don't exist at the moment.

I'm sure a lot of you are probably sick of your family after the last couple months of quarantine. But don't take them for granted. There's a strong chance I won't see mine till 2021. Sure, a lot of time together causes frustration and angst. But it beats being alone.

End of the Season

We hold onto winter as long as we can. Some years it's later than others if we're lucky. Last year we had excellent touring conditions through June into early July. The hot days of summer always are inevitable though.

I took this photo from the top of Mt. Baldy on a warm evening in mid June last year. As we topped out, we had the full moon rising to the left and the sun setting to the right. The snow corned back up at dusk as we rode down Main Chute and down through Alta ski area. Conditions couldn't have been more perfect.

We'll be closing out another season in the coming weeks. As sad as I am for it to end, I'm looking forward to a sunset Baldy lap to end it on.
