Pic of the Day: May 10
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. It's starting to look like we'll have active weather returning to Utah during the 2nd half of May. I wouldn't be opposed to one more pow day this year. I've been looking back at photos from last season and it's crazy how much snow we still had compared to this year. We even rode a lot of pow in May last year too.
Liam's Pension (Spicy Variation)
A year ago today, we rode Liam's Pension for the 2nd time in a week. On this particular mission, we opted for the spicy, rarely filled in variation of what has become one of our favorite lines in the Wasatch. We also got it in pow.
The entrance barely went. You had to thread the needle through the choke to avoid the rocks poking out. Out of the 3 variations of Liam's we've rode, I think this one was my favorite. In this photo, Tony is coming out of the choke into that first critical turn to avoid hitting the rocks on the right.
After this first section, the line opens up really nice and dumps you on a perfect, steep and wide open apron. Perfect for opening up the throttle and bombing down to the bottom.
I was looking up at this line the other day and our entrance doesn't go. It's all just a rock face. Crazy considering we've still had a good winter despite the dry spring. Some lines just take a massive year to fill in. I'm glad we got this one when we did. You never know if or when you'll get the chance to do it again.
